Ricardo Montalban passed away yesterday at the age of 88.

I remember him most fondly as the delightfully maniacal Khan in my favorite Star Trek movie: Star Trek II ~ The Wrath of Kahn. In particular I always loved his intense and quasi-Shakespearean delivery of these famous lines from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick (uttered to Kirk, of course):

“No, no, you can’t get away…

To the last, I will grapple with thee!

From Hell’s heart, I stab at thee!

For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee!”

“O” Say Can You See the Cult-ish-ness?

From The Corner:

We Are One   [Jonah Goldberg]

It seems a lot of folks beat me to this, though I confess it came to my mind the second I saw the Obama “O” salute. The Obama salute appears in the Star Trek episode The Way to Eden. I suppose National Review is Herbert.

I also remember that Star Trek episode.  The Enterprise is hijacked by a crazy doctor and some fanatical followers in an attempt to find Paradise.  The “O” symbol is their special sign.

Obama’s campaign is all just a little Too Much and getting Silly-er by the minute.

Apparently Obama’s staffers and followers still cannot see the cult-ish-ness of these signs and emblems and zealous group-think.  Blindness to the truth about their Leader and the rationality or virtue of his Mission is a characteristic of all cult followers.

I’d be very pleased with the way this is all going if I weren’t worried that Hillary will talk some sense into the DNC delegates and land the nominiation yet.  Darth Rodham has a MUCH better chance of defeating McCain than Obama-Wan-Kenobi.  (Yes, I know I’m mixing my Sci Fi metaphors.)
