Mickey Kaus is keeping track of them.

I’m still deciding what I think about this. My initial reaction – before I heard her speech (which was more of a meandering ramble, really) – was “what the heck is she doing?” Not sure that question was answered even after sifting through her speech to find her stated reasons.
Her ”higher calling” comment does seem to indicate she is not stepping away from politics, just from the governorship of Alaska.

A reader has brought this interesting Alaskan annual creative event to my attention.
The current contest is still underway, so here are some photos from last year. (Click on the numbers at the top of the page to view each one.) This one is my favorite.
Human creativity and ingenuity is one of our best qualities, don’t you think?
I believe it points to what it means to be created “in God’s image,” the Almighty being the First, greatest creative force in the universe.

My friends at ATR reminded me that last night, September 30th, at midnight, the bans that have been in effect since 1982 on domestic shale oil and outer continential shelf drilling expired.
Don’t throw a parade just yet, though.
ATR points out that in February of this year there were 487 leases issued in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea, which holds an estimated 15 billion barrels of oil, however – due to frivolous lawsuits – all 487 leases are delayed.
Also, there are 748 leases between two major seas in Alaska, the Chukchi and Beaufort, and exploration in every single lease was legally challenged in May of this year.
You may want to give your senator or congressman a call on this. And also feel free to give a shout out to congressional leaders Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Reid a call and tell them to pass expedited leasing, state profit sharing, and judicial review legislation. Here’s their info:

“(Sarah Palin) brought down Alaska’s governor, attorney general, and state Republican chairman. She killed the ‘bridge to nowhere.’ She used increased tax revenues from high oil prices to give Alaskans a rebate. She slashed government spending. She took on the biggest industry in Alaska, the oil companies, to work out an equitable deal on building a new gas pipeline. Obama can’t match even one of these accomplishments.”
