So, this cake was delivered to an Obama campaign office in Las Vegas today in honor of the President’s birthday:

Team Romney’s Communications Director in Nevada, Mason Harrison quips: ”Like many of Obama’s promises, this bundt is hollow in the middle.”

Team Obama probably won’t bother to respond to the political stunt, but if they did they could say ”You didn’t build that” about the public schools that the bakery staff attended and/or the public roads on which the cake delivery truck traveled.

The Republican National Committee similarly mocked President Obama yesterday, sending a cake to the Democratic National Committee with the same message commemorating Obama’s birthday.

If you’ve been living under a rock and are not aware of how all this began, the notes on the cakes are references to remarks Obama made while talking about the value of investments in domestic infrastructure. You’ll see that the full remarks take on a different meaning than the out-of-context clip:

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. … The point is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”

CC GOP Condemns RNC, Calls for Preibus Resignation

The Clark County Republican Party (CCRP), which now consists of a majority of Ron Paul supporters, last night voted to condemn the Republican National Committee. They are also calling for Chairman Reince Preibus to resign.

Ron Paul recently addressing the Clark County GOP

The resolution says this is because the RNC is supporting Mitt Romney as the “presumptive nominee” even though other candidates are “still actively campaigning”.

Here is the resolution passed last night by a vote of 184-182:

RNC Rule 11a Resolution – Final

I guess these folks did not get the memo that Ron Paul has ceased to actively campaign.

Led by RNC committeewoman-elect Diana Orrock (reminder: both the national committeewoman and man were deposed at the state meeting in Sparks two weekends ago), CCRP also voted to condemn a United Nations initiative called Agenda 21.

I am sure the U.N. General Assembly will be very upset to learn that Clark County GOP opposes their plans for world economic development

A new Independent Expenditure (IE) Committee (aka SuperPAC) launched today as a joint venture of the College Republican National Committee (CRNC), Young Republican National Federation (YRNF), Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) and American Crossroads.

Crossroads Generation this morning announced a $50,000 buy of online ads targeted to young swing voters in eight key states: CO, FL, IA, NC, NH, NV, OH, VA.

Start-‐up grants to the IE totaling $750,000 are being contributed by the CRNC, RSLC, and American Crossroads.

Crossroads Generation says it will focus on building a major online presence for outreach and mobilization. This includes the launch of a new website and video (www.CrossroadsGeneration.com), Twitter feed (@CrossroadsGen), and Facebook presence (www.Facebook.com/CrossroadsGeneration) to engage young people online.

The group will also tap into the CRNC’s membership of more than 250,000 college students on over 1,800 campuses nationwide. The CRNC plans to send 60 full-time field staff to a dozen swing states this fall.

Derek Flowers, formerly National Victory Director of the Republican National Committee in 2010, will serve as the organization’s executive director. Kristen Soltis, a survey researcher with award-winning expertise on young voters and politics, will serve as communications advisor.

Clark County GOP Censures Legislators Who Voted for Tax Increases

I was unable to attend, but Chuck Muth gives us the details of the special meeting of the Clark County Republican Central Committee last night.  We agreed in advance it would probably be a circus.  But Chuck says it was all business:  ”serious, thoughtful and orderly.”

The main purpose of the controversial meeting was to consider and vote on a resolution censuring the Republican state legislators who voted for this session’s higher taxes. Here’s the text of the resolution:

Whereas, Clark County, Nevada is already burdened with high unemployment and a sagging business economy; and,

Whereas, the platform of the Clark County Republican Party is clear in its opposition to new taxes; and,

Whereas, raising taxes is extremely poor public policy for Nevada’s people and it’s economy; and,

Whereas, the Nevada Republican Party as a whole, and every Chairman of every Nevada County Central Committee has signed a resolution urging it’s elected legislators to vote against raising new taxes; and,

Whereas, the political damage caused to the Republican Party brand name from Republican officeholders who support higher taxes is tremendous; and,

Whereas the Clark County, Nevada Republican Party has a responsibility to make it clear that individual legislators who are registered as Republicans who voted for tax increases did so in disregard for and in opposition to their own political party; therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Clark County, Nevada Republican Party that for their votes in support of raising taxes in SB 429, we censure the following registered Republican legislators:

Republican Senators:
Dennis Nolan
Warren Hardy
William Raggio
Dean Rhoads
Randolph Townsend

Republican Assemblymen:
John Carpenter

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the members of the Clark County Nevada Republican Party urge the Republican Party Central Committee, or any other official party entity from giving any assistance of any kind to those legislators listed above.

Chuck said a few people spoke against the resolution, on the grounds that it would hurt the party to appear fractured. But those speaking in favor pointed out that the harm done to the party by Republican legislators voting for this tax hike was far more harmful - and that something had to be said about it.

The resolution passed OVERWHELMINGLY. Says Chuck:  “The “yeas” were thunderous; the “nays” were barely audible whispers.”

And so it is that the party folks in Clark County took a major step toward reclaiming the GOP from the ”moderate” legislative leadership.

May all Nevada’s other counties follow suit.  So let it be written, so let it be done.
